Alternative Projects

Let's say you need several hierarchies that differ only by the project. In this case, you have to create one hierarchy instead of a set of almost identical hierarchies and apply it to a suitable project.

Alternative projects are the projects that you intend to use for the current hierarchy. Multiple hierarchies can be selected.

Let's walk through the process of applying one hierarchy for multiple projects step by step.

Creating a hierarchy for multiple projects

Let's create a hierarchy. The steps to create a hierarchy are described here.

First, you have to select the Alternative project on the Create Hierarchy or Edit Hierarchy page and save the new hierarchy or update the already existing one.

You can always change the list of alternative projects from the Edit Hierarchy page in the Alternative projects field.

How to apply hierarchy to another project

You will see the selected project names in the projects list on the Manage Hierarchies page after clicking the Project field of the node in the specific hierarchy.

For example, the SSD and the PMI projects were selected in the Alternative projects field while creating the My Hierarchy hierarchy. These two projects names will be displayed at the top of the projects list if you will click the Project field of any node in the My Hierarchy hierarchy.

Alternative projects are conveniently grouped in the project menu and are always at hand.

The choice of Alternative projects is optional. In any case, you can select any project from the existing ones to use it in the hierarchy.

After selecting the Alternative project you have to confirm the project change with the Confirm button shown on the Change project dialog.

After the confirmation you will see the notification placed below the hierarchy name to remind you that the changes are temporary.

If the project that you choose as Alternative is not suitable (usually the problem is a different set of issue types in the project) for the current hierarchy, then you will see a message about this.

In this case create a new hierarchy available for this project by the issue types.
