Apply Hierarchy
In order to create all the issues defined in the Hierarchy, go to the Templates → Apply Hierarchy in the top navigation menu.
Once the Apply Hierarchy dialog has been opened, select the desired Hierarchy and click Apply.
A list of available Hierarchies excludes Hierarchies which are not valid at the moment for the current user, and thus cannot be used. To fix them, navigate to the Manage Hierarchy Page and edit the desired Hierarchy.
Sometimes in the Confirmation Dialog, you can see a warning message:
This is related to the fact that the user who is trying to use a Hierarchy doesn’t have certain project permissions on one or more projects used in the current Hierarchy.
This means that after creating the issue, some fields (Reporter/Assignee/Due date) will not use a value that was set in the Node, instead, it will use the default value from the table below:
Field | Missing permission | Default value |
---|---|---|
Reporter | Modify Reporter | Current User |
Assignee | Assign Issues | Automatic (depends on project configuration) |
Due date | Schedule Issues | Empty |
Click Confirm on the confirmation window to proceed. Once clicked, all the issues will be created and a search page would be opened, highlighting all the newly created issues.
Also, Hierarchies can be used from the Manage Hierarchy Page by selecting an appropriate Hierarchy in the left sidebar and clicking the Apply button on the right side.
The ‘Modify Reporter’, ‘Assign Issues’ and ‘Schedule Issues’ project permissions can be edited by the administrators.
Temporary Hierarchy
Temporary Hierarchy allows making temporary changes in the content of your future issues right before applying hierarchies without making changes to the actual hierarchy.
This feature enables users to dynamically specify field values that cannot be extracted into Node details because of their dynamic nature ( I.e. a Hierarchy that generates issues for processing new hire might leave new person’s name empty in the Node and fill it in in the Temporary Hierarchy)
To use Temporary Hierarchy:
Click the Summary of Node that should be edited
Make necessary changes in the issue fields
Click Apply button
After applying, the message “Hierarchy has temporary changes” would be displayed next to the Apply button.
When Temporary Hierarchy is applied, the issues will contain your temporary changes, while the Hierarchy itself will not be changed.
