OR
You will see the following dialog if you have custom variables in the Hierarchy.

After the Hierarchy is Applied you will see the following message in the bottom left corner:

By clicking on this link you will be redirected to the Jira Search page where you can see all newly created issues

A list of available Hierarchies excludes Hierarchies which are not valid at the moment for the current user, and thus cannot be used. To fix them, navigate to the Manage Hierarchy Page and edit the desired Hierarchy.

Apply Hierarchy in the parallel mode

Applying Hierarchy in parallel mode allows all nodes within a hierarchical structure to initiate their processes simultaneously, rather than following a sequential, ordered approach. This method enhances efficiency by reducing overall processing time, as it eliminates the need to wait for one node to complete before another can start. However, it requires careful management to handle dependencies and maintain data integrity, as the lack of a predefined order can lead to synchronization challenges.

The parallel mode enabled by default

Apply Hierarchy in the sequential mode

In sequential mode, the Hierarchy-applying process starts with the first node, proceeding to the next only after the current node's process has been completed. This ensures a strict, ordered progression where each node's task is initiated and concluded before moving on to the subsequent node. This approach is particularly effective for managing dependencies and maintaining data integrity, as it allows for controlled execution where the outcome of one process directly influences the start of another.

To enable the applying process in the sequential mode:

  1. Click the Apply button for the Hierarchy

  2. Enable toggle to apply Hierarchy in the sequential mode

How to make Temporary Changes before Apply Hierarchy

The Exclude Hierarchy Nodes function allows you to make temporary changes in your future Jira issues right before applying hierarchies without making changes to the actual hierarchy.

When Temporary Hierarchy is applied, the issues will contain your temporary changes, while the Hierarchy itself will not be changed.

How to Exclude Hierarchy Nodes

Exclude Hierarchy Nodes is a convenient tool that is useful in case you need to make changes to a Hierarchy on the go without spending too much time on it. For instance, there is a Hierarchy for a daily meeting, and one of the team members cannot be present. Instead of editing the entire Hierarchy, you can exclude that one particular Node that you created for the user who cannot participate in the meeting and proceed with the meeting.

To exclude one or more members from the “Daily meeting” Hierarchy, you simply have to select the nodes you want to exclude in the very last column of the table by clicking on the appropriate checkbox. Notice that as soon as you click on the checkbox of your choice the notification near the Hierarchy name in the upper left corner of the window will pop up. It will contain a “Hierarchy has temporary changes” message so that you will know for sure that there are changes to be applied.

You will see the message from the picture above every time you bring changes to the Hierarchy.

Now, when you have selected the Nodes or Hierarchies you want to exclude, you can Apply the ‘Daily Standup' Hierarchy as usual.

There is one more thing you have to bear in mind. You cannot leave “Sub-task” nodes without their parent nodes in the Hierarchy. In case if you try to do so, all of the Sub-task child nodes will be excluded along with their parent nodes. Here is a step-by-step explanation of what would happen.

Apply Hierarchy from the Project Side Navigation panel

The Apply Hierarchy action is now available in the Project Side Navigation panel which can be opened on the Jira Issue View page or Project Overview page, etc.

  1. Click the Manage Templates item in the Side Navigation panel

  1. Select the Apply Hierarchy action

  1. Click the Select a hierarchy selector and choose hierarchy in the list

In this dialog Hierarchies are filtered by the ability to apply them (depends on Permissions schema)

  1. Select an application mode and click the Confirm button

After one hierarchy is applied, the Apply Hierarchy dialog will be opened again so it is easy to apply a few different hierarchies in the row.

To close this dialog click the Back to Project button and navigate to any other page you need.

Abort the Hierarchy Nodes application process.

You can abort the process of Applying Hierarchy if something is wrong.

Switch the toggle on the ‘Confirmation’ dialog to the ‘Sequential mode,’ and the ‘Abort’ option will be available:

Once applying is aborted, the notification will be shown, and you can still open the link with the applied Jira Issues:
